Why (and How) to Build Your Own Apartment Locating Website

Building a website sounds like an intimidating thing to do if you're not tech-savvy. 

But I'm here to tell you, from personal experience, building your own apartment locating website is an amazing way to stand out from the crowd and get great leads who are excited to work with you. 

Having a personal website is like having a business card on steroids. 

Here's a few reasons why you want your own website. 

Tell your story

Almost all locators present themselves and act the same exact way. Nobody stands out. Everyone's sales pitch amounts to "I am an apartment locator. I'm free. hire me plz"

Stop. Don't do that. 

Instead, tell your story. 

Who are you? Why should people trust you? Why should anybody excited about working with YOU of all people? 

People like to do business with PEOPLE - not bland corporate sounding robots. 

Don't be afraid to get silly. Why do you think I have an alpaca selfie as my main business profile picture?

Explain how apartment locating works. 

Telling people you help people find apartments and you're free to work with isn't enough. Everybody does and says that. 

Instead, explain to people how apartment locating works. Explain how you get paid. Explain your research process. Explain your experience working with other people. 

The more transparency you create about how apartment locating works, the more your leads will trust you and become loyal clients. 

Easy to share.

It's much easier to share a website link than a business card. The easier you make it for your past clients to share your information, the more referral clients you will get.

Having your own website means you can make blog posts, gain more trust with your leads, and in the long term, get direct traffic through SEO. 

Capture Better Leads

One of the most impactful strategies I took when building my website was embedding my own customized lead intake form on my website. This let me make a fun creative way for new leads to interact with me and my website. 

Here's a copy of the one I use for Taco Street. All I had to do was embed this onto the website and clients would fill it out. 
How can you build a website, even if you don't know how to build a website?

It's actually much easier than you think it is. If you're just starting off - skip website buildings like Wordpress or even Squarespace. Odds are you'll just get overwhelmed and quit. 

Here's what I used - Strikingly.

Strikingly is a ridiculously simple website builder than you can use without knowing code or anything complicated. Pick from a simple template. Change the colors and text, add your own pictures, and you're basically good to go. 

You can whip up your own custom website in an afternoon without a problem. You can even get your own domain name easily through Strikingly. 

Then you can embed your lead intake form on the website so people can contact you directly. 

This is the exact approach I took when I started building my apartment locating business. Even though I had no professional experience building websites, I still had a professional looking that I made myself. 

This was one of the most important decisions in my early apartment locating career.
